Alright, so the Olympics are basically over. Thanks to NBC’s shitacious coverage of the snowboarding events, we barely got a show. Snowboarding is done for the games. We had a good run this year, but got a lot of bad rep since the beginning of it all.
Beginning with Kevin Pearce, the news stations were all over his story. Making claims that snowboarding is unsafe and pushes the limits of its athletes too far. Christine Brennan, an apparent “expert” on the subject of snowboarding was prime example of the misconception people have of snowboarding that don’t snowboard. She got ripped a new one on Yobeat.com and received many lovely emails from outraged snowboarders calling her out on her “facts.”
Update: Kevin is doing well, find the support group on Facebook and send him a get well message.
From there on out, the snowboarders were under a microscope.
Of course we all know Shaun White scored gold. big surprise. I’m not saying he didnt deserve it, but Louie Vito got robbed for sure. They say his amplitude wasnt enough for silver, but it should be MORE impressive that he could pull off a 12 with less height than others. Then that leads us to Scotty Lago’s bronze. Oh Scotty. Well deserved, it was great to see him on the podium. Then he managed to get in trouble because TMZ posted a photo of him and a lovely girl getting dirty with his medal. This shit was all over the news. It was on E! fucking news for godssake. Criticized again by people who clearly dont understand the celebration of winning an Olympic medal. As Todd Richards put it,
“the Olympics need snowboarding more than snowboarding needs the Olympics. If you invite the naughty kids to the party don’t be shocked when someone pisses in the punch. Snowboarders are not the typical Olympians, for better or worse.”
